Hi

I came across your site when I was alerted by a Google Alert to the fact that you'd published a comment on your blog on my observations about the helpfulness of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) techniques in coaching. Thanks. I have been flitting through the site and found it useful.

In your coach's playbook section you are asking for comments about marketing techniques for coaches. One thing I did when I was starting out a few years back as a coach to publicise my service and help improve search rankings for my website was to write articles on coaching topics and submit them to free directories. In exchange I got a free link back to my site and gained clients that way. This is something I would recommend anyone starting in coaching to try out.

For anyone reading this comment who is a life coach just starting out or wanting to market their service more, you can find a brief discussion about this marketing technique on my website at http://www.davidbonham-carter.com/lifecoachmarketing.html or alternatively you can visit http://www.life-coach-tips.co.uk, which is a website of life coaching articles, and submit your article for inclusion there. That way you can give useful information to potential clients - which is generally appreciated and establishes credibility - and in return the article gives you a link to your website which those potential clients can follow through.

Best wishes

Frank,

Thanks for your comments.

As you noted in this post, there is a silver lining...there has never been a better time to be a coaching solution to a unmet or underserved challenge.

Hi FM and I appreciate your blog post!

Most students today do seem better about seeking out the guidance they need, at least I hope so! I love what your point about how most of the "life coaching" you and your peers received came from one another. Too funny!

I want to share with you and your readers another resource that I discovered tonight in my conversation with Kate Kelly and Peggy Ramundo, authors of "You Mean I'm Not Lazy, Crazy, or Stupid." :)

I'm planning to sign up for their upcoming coach training course, and so we met tonight (via phone) to discuss basics.

Anyway, one thing their training organization offers that could be very beneficial to students is ADD coaching at a reduced rate for clients who are "truly in financial need."
http://www.addcoaching.com/services_fees.php

Hope this is helpful!

Sincerely,
Tessa

Frank -

That IS precisely what I was talking about -- how cool to be "gotten" by you!

And, even if the coaching client, the manager and the coach all agree that there's a particular area of development to be addressed, I'm still of the opinion that it's necessary to get to the root of the problem. Unless you know what's causing the person to do (or not do) something, it's unlikely you'll be able to help him or her change the behavior.

(And I have to say, once you start digging into that "one thing" that needs to change, you generally find the situation is much more three-dimensional, and that the person can - and would benefit from - developing in other ways as well.)

Warmly,
Erika

That seems to be precisely what Erika was talking about. However, I suspect that many coaches would see coaching assignments targeting specific issues as perfectly acceptable.

Thanks for your comment!

As we do a lot of coachings with managers of various compnies in Germany, I would like to point out, that it makes only sense, if the manager himself is really willing o step into a coaching.
We often hear "Could you please coach my manager of ....., he must learn to be more.............!" In cases like that, we do no start a coaching process, even if the person himself is telling us, he is ready!
